What is Data Science?

As the name may entail, Data Science is the analysis, interpretation, and use of data to fuel and improve large companies, research institutions, tech startups, and more. It should be noted that the term "Data Science" didn't exist up until the early 2010s and is now a hot commodity. Any organization without a Data Scientist on hand is at a severe disadvantage.

Data Science is crafted from three major sectors: math & statistics, computer science, and communication. Those three categories create the most in-demand job of the 21st century. General subcategories under math & statistics include machine learning, statistical modeling, and regression analysis. Also, features like

database management, data visualization, Python, and Big Data, all fall under the computer science category. Lastly, elements of data science that are linked to communication are persuasive storytelling skills and collaboration with management.

In summary, a watered-down definition of Data Science is the extraction of data to generate insights to improve an organization. Additionally, Data Science helps companies decide what are the best strategies to become the best that they can be.
