Because data science is such an in-demand job and is growing rapidly, data scientists could find a job practically anywhere. No matter the field, every organization is looking for someone to give them insights on how to improve their operations. The variety of options means a lot of flexibility for data scientists. In this post, I'll be talking about two possible paths a data scientist could take: a business track or one in healthcare.

The crossover of healthcare and data science is the field that I'm more interested in pursuing. Through research and knowing my interests, I find this career path more desirable. Healthcare data scientists could work with data involving insurance, treatment plans, results of examinations, patient demography, etc. They would help make decisions that could help patients get the best treatment and medical care workers work more efficiently. Finally, someone going down the healthcare path could expect to work at a hospital, a research institute, or an insurance company.

On the other hand, the business track of data science is probably the route that most people think of when they think of data science. A data scientist working for a business could find themselves analyzing customer reviews, predicting sales, deciding on marketing strategies, and more. Their job is to use past data to predict the best strategies to improve a company's efficiency.
In addition to healthcare and general business, data scientists can be found working in fields like finance, manufacturing, banking, agriculture, transport, and so many more. The options under the data science umbrella are endless, but all require the same set of skills. Whether you're predicting the weather or analyzing the stock market, you should be proficient in math, computer science, and storytelling.
